  • Join our 18 day Mountain Medicine CME course and Trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC). We are also hosting an option to climb for those qualified and eager to climb the highest peak in the World. (If you are interested in climbing Everest, please contact us and we can send the full itinerary which is planned for 55 days.)

  • Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world located in the Himalayan Range of Nepal. Everest Base Camp (EBC) is a hiking trip to visit the base camp of Mount Everest. EBC has been the world’s premier mountain trek since the 1960’s when Nepal opened its doors to commercial trekkers. It is a dream of all hikers and outdoor lovers to visit the base camp of Mount Everest at least once in their life. Indeed hiking to EBC is a wonderful, once in a lifetime journey. This trip will offer magnificent views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan Mountains. It also offers you impressive glaciers, as well as a glimpse into the lifestyle and culture of the Sherpas - the most heroic mountaineers in the world.

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Explore the ancient city of Kathmandu, Nepal

    • Visit Swayamblhunath (the monkey temple), a 2000 year old Buddhist Stupa

    • Visit the Bodhnath Stupa with its’ 130 ft dome

    • Visit the ancient Pashupatinath Temple with a holy cremation site

  • Scenic flights to/from Kathmandu and Mountain Village of Lukla

  • Hiking through small Sherpa villages, across rivers, up mountain valleys

  • Close views of Mt. Everest 8848m (Tallest Mountain in the World), Mt. Lhotse 8516M-(4th), Mt. Makalu 8485m (5th), Mt. Cho You 8201m (6th), and many other 7000m peaks surrounding the area

  • Hike up Kala Patthar for the best views of Mt. Everest and the Khumba Glacier

THE TEAM / FACULTY:

  • The mountain logistics and leadership will be provided by extremely experienced international mountain guides from Nepal.

  • The Wild Med Adventures Team are all mountaineers, well traveled and experienced, but are only responsible for the educational aspect of this trip. Instructors: Mike Cavanagh, PA-C and TBD- Please see BIO's for instructor information.

    Please do your own research in regards to safety and experience. Mountaineering is dangerous and despite taking all necessary precautions, you may still be injured or killed due to unpredictable avalanches, slips, falls, equipment failure and/or trauma.

PRE-REQUISITES: (Anyone can attend but hiking experience and previous altitude exposure is recommended)

  • EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, PA, NP, RRT, PhD or Physician for the CME portion

  • Non-Medicals are welcome to attend and will likely enjoy learning about safety in the mountains.

  • A keen interest in wilderness first aid / medicine

  • An excellent level of physical fitness (**This is a very demanding hike at altitude and with steep terrain)

  • Previous hiking / outdoor experience

  • Those with less experience/confidence must understand the physical demands of the environment and the risks of hiking at altitude. Prior experience is recommended. Please ask if you are unsure if you are cut out for this type of climb.

HEALTH / VACCINATIONS:

  • Delegates should be vaccinated appropriately - Please see CDC recommendations for visiting Nepal.

  • Everyone must have their COVID Vaccinations.

  • Delegates should be aware this is intended to be a wilderness course in every sense of the word. The team in some parts of Nepal will have limited access to medical care. This is not a packaged holiday and neither Wild Med Adventures nor our local guides can control mother nature. Should our plans be affected by floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, snow storms, earthquakes and the like, we will continue with alternate plans in true expedition spirit, affecting self rescues and problem solving along the way. 

MEDICAL EVACUATION INSURANCE / TRAVEL INSURANCE:

  • Delegates should have personal insurance / travel insurance to cover any in-country medical examinations, treatment or rescue/evacuation from a remote area. Rescue/Evacuation Insurance is Mandatory. We recommend Global Rescue and they offer trip specific and year long coverage.

INCLUDED

  • 4-night hotel accommodation in Kathmandu “Shankar Hotel”, a 4-star hotel (or similar) with all rooms having private facilities. Breakfast is included and we will cover all meals on the trip unless you plan to have a night out by yourself while in Kathmandu. Accommodation is on a twin share basis but single rooms are usually available at an additional cost. Please inform us as early as possible if you wish to have a single room.

  • Sagarmatha National park entry fees, Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Community (KPLRC) Entrance and all government taxes.

  • Return Domestic flight ticket Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu in a Twin Otter flight (All guests + 1Guide according to volume of group). *Please bear in mind, an extra cost of approx. US$600-$800/- per guest per flight will be applicable for chartering a private Helicopter in case of bad weather disturbance on fixed wing Twin Otter flight IN/OUT of Lukla.

  • Domestic airport taxes.

  • All pick up & drop transportation from airport to airport both domestic & international.

  • An experienced local guide who knows the area, local people, mountains and local culture very well.

  • Assistant guide/Sherpa (4 trekkers = 1 assistant guide).

  • Appropriate number of porters. (1 porter per two guest ratios)

  • Meal 3 times a day, Breakfast/lunch/dinner (tea/coffee/hot drinks on the trek). Meals can be selected from the menu at lodges according to individual choice.

  • Insurance for all local crews including the porters

  • 1 Bottle of “Summit Brand” Oxygen, fresh mask & regulator set (only for emergency use).

  • Compressive First Aid kit only for crews.

  • Farewell celebration meal in a well reputed Nepali restaurant with cultural dance show after the trek with all local staff.

  • Accommodations on the trek in the finest lodge

  • Wilderness Medicine “Mountain Medicine CME”

    EXCLUDED

  • International & home country domestic airfares, transfers en route & excess baggage.

  • Your personal insurances. Medical, Mountain rescue & repatriation cover is obligatory.

  • Personal expenses e.g. phone calls, laundry, alcoholic beverage, bottled water, WI-FI Internet, any electronic device charging facility fee, and main meals (lunch & dinner) in Kathmandu apart from celebration meal Kathmandu.

  • Your Nepal entry visa fee (USD $50 available on entry) Valid for 30 days.

  • Tipping to the guide & local staff (allow up to $400 - $450 per guest) will be collected by guide at EBC.

  • Excess baggage above 15 kg will be extra charged USD $1.5 per kg.

  • Extra night accommodation in Kathmandu because of early arrival, late departure, early return from mountain (due to any reason) than the scheduled itinerary.

  • All our guests are kindly requested to bring your own First Aid Kit with sufficient supplies according to the prescription given by your private Doctor for the trip.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

  • This course is ideal for those interested in providing medical care in the wild or those travel enthusiasts, group leaders, climbers, walkers, EMT’s, nurses, NP's, PA's or doctors with a desire to learn medical treatment in austere environments. While completing the core curriculum of this CME course we will gradually ascend the 5,636m peak of Orizaba, completing the core lectures and skills at various camps or in the wilderness settings along the route.

ATTENDING THIS COURSE YOU WILL:

  • Learn the latest wilderness medical skills for patient assessment, stabilization and evacuation.

  • Work with our expert faculty and local mountain guides to develop your mountain skills and visit Everest Base Camp

  • Earn 20 AMA PRA Category 1 CME TM credits

  • Obtain Fellowship credits from the Wilderness Medicine Society (FAWM)

CERTIFICATION:

  • Approved for 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits and WMS FAWM Credits on our Mountain Medicine Adventure

  • “This course has been approved for Fellowship in the Academy of Wilderness Medicine (FAWM) credits

through the Wilderness Medical Society. Actual credits awarded depend on personal credit needs and history.”

  • The Wilderness Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits TM. Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

  • All educational content presented in this activity has been reviewed and validated as appropriate in keeping with sound scientific principles. 

    CANCELATION POLICY

Your deposit for the travel portion of the course is nonrefundable unless the course does not reach its minimal number of participants. If we do not reach the requirement of 10 participants and we have to cancel then a full refund will be given. Should you wish to cancel your booking please inform us immediately in writing by e­mail or letter. The following charges will apply, as a percentage of the trip: More than 90 days before departure – loss of deposit, 90 to 60 days – 50% of total cost, 60 days to 30 days – 75% of total cost and 30 days or less ­100% of total cost. These cancellation charges go to paying, amongst other things, outside Guides that have been contracted in, hotel or airline deposits, staff wages, setting up costs etc.
