Nicola baker, MD, FAWM, DiMM
Dr. Nicola Baker is an emergency physician and wilderness medicine educator based in Tucson, Arizona. Working at an academic medical center, she helps residents and medical students turn medical knowledge into real-world clinical skill. She is also Medical Director for the Southern Arizona Rescue Association, where she responds to backcountry missions as a rope-rescue technician and leads trainings in wilderness medicine and technical rescue.
Her love of the mountains began decades ago with a scholarship to a Colorado Outward Bound mountaineering course, which sparked a lifelong passion for adventure and experiential learning. Since then, she has led multi-week expeditions in the Sierra Nevada, worked as a professional ski patroller, and taught wilderness medicine in settings around the world. Her climbing and mountaineering experience spans the Sierra Nevada, the Cascades, and South America. When she’s not above tree line, you'll likely find her mountain biking the Sonoran Desert or exploring the world with her daughter.
Nicola is deeply inspired by the camaraderie, humor, and shared purpose that arise organically during Wild Med Adventures trips. She's stoked to help participants build their skills, confidence, and community in wild and beautiful places and we are happy to have her on board with us.
