Gabriel Cade, MD, FAWM
Dr. Cade is an Emergency Medicine doctor and has completed a Wildernes Medicine Fellowship at Baystate Medical Center. Raised on a goat farm in rural North Carolina, Gabe's path to medicine evolved from a passion for expedition, international, and disaster volunteer work. He has a background in adventure racing, rock climbing, mountaineering, SCUBA diving, and backpacking. Before medical school, Cade led multi-sport adventure trips in Switzerland and France, coordinated racer safety with Eco-Challenge, spent 4 months hiking the entire 2200 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and competed on Survivor: Marquesas. Cade was chief resident in his Emergency Medicine Residency at a busy level 1 trauma center and enjoys teaching. Cade has again relocated to North Carolina, but continues to play an active role as a wilderness medicine lecturer and skills instructor. Cade's research interest is focused on the use of technology in austere environments - innovative backcountry medical gear, portable ultrasound, solar / hydrogen chargers, and the ubiquitous smart phone.
